Job (dis)satisfaction and experienced training needs

Abstract

This article examines the dialectic between the actual individual needs of trainees and the shared aims of their vocational training. Needs analysis is widely studied in the field of training science. Even if the reality is sometimes quite different, it is presented as inescapable due to the involvement of trainees in expressing their needs, despite the difficulty they have in defining them accurately. Rooted in the cultural anthropology research program, the link between job dissatisfaction and the delimitation of training needs is studied. A transformative system was set up for a group of volunteer teachers in a school, including time for input, a modified work situation and negotiation of the training object. The results highlight the changing needs of the trainees and the singularities of their trajectories, widening inter-individual disparities.
